This past Sunday I had the pleasure of dining at Ornella Trattoria in Queens, NY with PR Maven Alysia Stern of 24/7 PR , Restaurant Fairy, Jean Lee and Jessica Flores of Domesticated Me. Let me first say that this experience was absolutely wonderful. The food was delectable and the owner Giuseppe Viterale was a phenomenal host!
I have to admit I was super impressed with the presentation of the food, but, more importantly the love that was put into the preparation of the food. As a person who suffers from Celiac Disease, I took great comfort in knowing that Giuseppe and his staff were very mindful of my condition and made sure no cross contamination took place. Another thing that I was very impressed with were the options that were available to the “gluten-free crew”. Giuseppe was more than happy to make any adjustments to the items on the menu so that I could enjoy the cuisine just as much as someone who did not suffer from Celiac.
Here are a couple of menu items that I highly recommend… super delicious!
Tagliere di salumi (cut boarder of meat) : crostini di Nduja, prosciutto, soppersata, pancetta
Talk about ummm ummm good! All of Ornella Trattoria’s pork is raised on Giuseppe’s farm upstate New York and cured by him. Nothing processed, nothing unhealthy all organic …. now I love that. The spread of meat was soooo delicious. Huge portion great for sharing! Of course I wasn’t able to indulge in the bread ,but, no biggie my meat was put on a separate platter for me!
Orecchiette (ear shape pasta) with prosciutto and melon.
I have never had melon in my pasta .. maybe I’m late but this was new for me. I was NOT disappointed. Between the organic prosciutto, melon, and great gluten-free pasta (not too dense, not too dry, did not taste like saw dust thank GOD!) I was in food heaven!
Pane Cotto (cooked bread, with sausage, broccoli Rabe and fried eggs
Now of course we can’t eat the bread so the staff whipped up a Gluten-Free version for the Princess and it was everything I dreamed of and more.
Sgroppino (Venitian digestive), mix lemon sorbet with vodka and Prosecco – Did someone say cocktail? And it helps with digestion I’m sold pass me one please! This should be self explanatory.
Ornella Trattoria is definitely an Italian gem. The service and food is impeccable and I plan on stopping by to see my dear friend Giuseppe soon! 🙂
