When living gluten-free, there is so much to consider. Gluten can even make its way into our beauty products these days!
It can be found in body wash, shampoos, lipsticks, lotions and so much more. Luckily, with all of the information and product options available to us, there is no reason that we should have to sacrifice being gorgeous while avoiding the dreaded symptoms of being “glutened.”
Here is some great news for gluten-free beauties—usually, topical beauty products and cosmetics containing gluten do not absorb through the skin. According to the Mayo Clinic, they pose no danger to those who need to avoid this protein due to celiac disease or other health reasons.
This means that you can use a beauty product containing gluten without needing to worry about having a very un-glamorous reaction. This should be some relief if you’ve been banishing some of your cosmetics, hair care and skincare products out of concern that you might have a reaction, you can happily go back to your beauty favorites!
However, there is one important exception. Gluten containing beauty products can be a problem if they end up in your mouth and are ingested. So your best bet is to avoid any lip balms, lip glosses, lipstick and lip pencils that contain this ingredient.
Finding wonderful cosmetics that are gluten-free has become much easier. Afterglow Cosmetics, maker of organic lip balms, glosses and lipsticks along with a whole range of other products, have been certified as safe by the Gluten-Free Certification Organization.
Ecco Bella creates organic, gluten-free makeup and skincare products. An added bonus—the company is cruelty-free and all products are vegan-friendly!
